What it means
In January 1610 he watched four dots beside Jupiter change position night after night, always in a line, sometimes vanishing behind the planet. There was no reading of that except as bodies in orbit around something other than the Earth. The argument that everything must circle us had rested on the claim that nothing was observed to do otherwise, and a small telescope ended it in a matter of weeks.
The claim comes from NASA.
