What it means
Cassini flew through the plumes and tasted them, which is a rare thing to be able to do with an ocean you have never landed on. They contain water, salts, silica grains and simple organic molecules, and they come from fissures in the south polar ice that were nicknamed the tiger stripes. Some of the spray escapes altogether and feeds one of Saturn's outer rings, so the moon is quietly manufacturing part of the ring system.
