What it means
A cell is not hot enough for its chemistry to happen on its own, and heating a cell is not an option. So each reaction gets a protein shaped to hold the right molecules in the right position and lower the energy hill between start and finish. The enzyme is not consumed and does not change what the final balance would be; it changes how long the wait is, from geological to immediate. One molecule can process thousands of others a second.
