What it means

A cell divides into two, and that is the only way any of them arrive. Your body replaces billions of them a day, chiefly in the gut lining, the skin and the blood, and every replacement is a division of a cell already present. Follow the chain backward from any cell you own and it runs to a single fertilized egg, and past that without a break into deep time. Cancer is that same process with the stopping signal ignored.
