What it means
Calcium metal is silvery, soft and reacts with water, so it is not something a body could store. Bone is built from a calcium phosphate mineral laid down on a scaffold of collagen protein, which is what gives bone both stiffness and a degree of give. The skeleton also serves as a chemical reserve, and the body will withdraw calcium from it when blood levels fall.
