What it means
Its melting point is over three thousand degrees Celsius, higher than any other metal, and it holds its strength at temperatures that would leave steel as a puddle. That is what made the incandescent bulb practical: a filament has to glow white hot without evaporating. The same property sends tungsten into rocket nozzles, welding electrodes and radiation shielding.
