What it means

There are no hydrogen wells. Almost all of it on this planet is already bonded to something else, in water or in hydrocarbons, and prying it loose costs at least as much energy as burning it later returns. So hydrogen sits in the same category as a battery: useful for moving energy to where it is wanted and storing it until it is needed, and never a way of getting more of it than you started with.
