Silver conducts electricity better than any other metal, though copper is far cheaper to use.

Chemistry Facts, sourced to Royal Society of Chemistry.

What it means

Copper comes within a few percent of it and costs a tiny fraction as much, which settles the argument for household wiring. Silver still wins where the margin matters more than the money, such as in radio frequency contacts and some spacecraft. It also conducts heat better than any other metal, which is why a silver spoon in hot tea warms so quickly.

The claim comes from Royal Society of Chemistry, and the page it comes from was read on 2026-08-27 to confirm it still says this.

This is not the kind of claim that goes out of date, which is why it was set as a puzzle rather than a fact with a shelf life.
