What it means

Gold is about nineteen times as dense as water, so a liter of it, roughly the size of a carton of milk, comes to some nineteen kilograms. The standard bar held in central banks is smaller than a housebrick and weighs around twelve and a half kilograms, which is why films showing somebody running away with an armful of them are being optimistic. Density was also the original test for a fake.
