What it means
It gets its corrosion resistance the same way aluminum does, from a thin oxide skin that reseals itself the moment it is scratched. That combination of strength, lightness and indifference to salt water makes it the metal of choice for aircraft parts, submarine hulls and surgical implants. Bone will bond directly to a titanium surface, which very few metals allow.
