Subtract one from the golden ratio and you get exactly the same thing as dividing one by it.

What it means
That single property is essentially the definition, and everything else about the number follows from it. Ratios of consecutive Fibonacci numbers close in on it, which is why it appears in the arrangement of seeds in a sunflower head. Claims that it governs the proportions of the Parthenon or of a beautiful face are, on inspection, generally fitted after the fact.
