What it means

Euler's identity relates e, pi, the imaginary unit, one and zero in a single line with an equals sign and nothing left over. It is regularly voted the finest equation in mathematics, and the reason it feels surprising is that the five constants arrive from completely unrelated corners of the subject: growth, geometry, algebra, counting and nothing.
