What it means

The ratios go two, one and a half, one and two thirds, one point six, and they zigzag in toward the golden ratio, about one point six one eight. It happens for any starting pair you like, not only for one and one, because the rule that each term is the sum of the previous two is what forces it. That is also why the same ratio shows up in the spiral arrangement of seeds in a sunflower head, which grows by adding one at a time.
