What it means

They carry no electric charge and barely interact with anything, so ordinary matter is effectively transparent to them. A neutrino from the sun would pass through a wall of lead a light year thick with a fair chance of coming out the other side. Detecting one takes thousands of tons of material, buried deep underground to keep everything else out, and even then the count is a handful of events a day.
